Preview of State Arts Agency FY2025 Appropriations
NASAA has released the FY2025 State Arts Agency Legislative Appropriations Preview, forecasting legislative appropriations for the arts across all 56 states and jurisdictions for the upcoming fiscal year. For FY2025, total aggregated appropriations to state arts agencies are projected to be $706.7 million, representing an 11% decrease from FY2024. This decline is primarily attributable to substantial reductions in line item appropriations or nonrecurring funds for a few states. Despite this decrease, the projected funding remains 68% higher than prepandemic levels in FY2021.
The report indicates that 29 state arts agencies expect increases in their appropriations, with a median increase of 10.2%, while 18 anticipate decreases, with a median decrease of 11.9%. The projected per capita appropriation for FY2025 is $2.09, a decrease of $0.26 from FY2024.
These preliminary estimates were collected before most states began their new fiscal year on July 1, 2024. As states revisit their enacted budgets to accommodate shifting revenue and expense conditions, these figures may be subject to change. NASAA will provide a comprehensive report in the upcoming winter, detailing the enacted budgets of all state arts agencies.
