Getting the Arts on the (GPS) Map
Getting the Arts on the (GPS) Map
Nebraska Arts Council
Global Positioning System (GPS) devices have become ubiquitous, not only as automotive accessories but also as components of smartphones and other personal data devices used by millions of American consumers. One of the most powerful features of such GPS devices is their ability to highlight attractions, services and businesses close to each user’s location. However, not all services—and certainly not all arts organizations—are included. The Nebraska Arts Council is helping Nebraska cultural groups and creative businesses “get on the map” by sharing some simple steps that will increase an organization’s chances of being listed. Those tips include:
- Registering for a D-U-N-S number. Dun & Bradstreet registration lists are referenced by the scouting companies that several GPS manufacturers use to build their database of local amenities.
- Registering with InfoUSA. Some GPS manufacturers use the Tele Atlas service, which mines the Info USA directory for its mapping services.
By taking these steps, arts organizations can increase their visibility to potential visitors, customers and audience members. For more details, consult the latest Nebraska Arts Council e-news listing.
