2019 State Legislative Roundup
NASAA has released its State Legislative Roundup 2019, the latest iteration of its annual review of state legislation important to state arts agencies and their constituencies. The report highlights 60 bills introduced this year to affect state arts agency structure, governance, funding, or programming priorities such as arts education, public art and the creative economy. It also includes a set of infographics analyzing current and recent trends in state cultural policy around the country.
The report is based on NASAA’s ongoing monitoring of the state legislative landscape. It helps equip state arts agency staff and council members, local arts councils, arts advocates, and other stakeholders with the knowledge to advance policies that can benefit the arts at the state level. In 2019, NASAA reviewed more than 640 bills and closely tracked about 130 of them.
NASAA’s knowledge of state legislative activity benefits from the input of state arts agencies. We welcome news—now or at any point in the year—about past, current or pending legislation in your state. You can share your legislative leads by contacting NASAA Research Manager Paul Pietsch.
