Oregon – Arts funding up 20 percent with grants of $1.36 million to groups
Gov. Ted Kulongoski announced more than $1.36 million in funding for various Oregon cultural institutions and programs. All of it comes courtesy of the Oregon Cultural Trust, a state-run trust for culture and the arts.

New Jersey – Welcomes and Farewells as Arts Council awards $21.5 million in grants
Executive Director David A. Miller announced he would leave his post Aug. 17 after 23 years of service. He becomes the executive vice president of the NJN Foundation. The council now begins a national search for Miller’s replacement.

Maryland – Economic Impact in Maryland Exceeds $1 Billion
Study shows the arts generated an estimated $37.3 million in state and local taxes, up from $35.1 million In FY2005, and generated 13,762 full- and part-time jobs in 2006.

Canada Council Budget Receives $30 Million Increase
The Canadian government has permanently boosted the Canada Council’s budget by $30 million. “The May 2006 federal budget raised the Canada Council’s funding by $20 million in 2006-7 and $30 million the following year, but the increase was not guaranteed in future.” Total annual Canada Council funding is now $180 million.
