Did you know that state arts agencies (SAAs) invested more than $8 million in direct grants to artists last year? Individual artists are a crucial part of a state’s creative environment and SAAs support artists in a variety of ways. SAA support for individual artists has held steady over the years, making up a consistent portion of total grants and grant dollars. These grants take the form of fellowships, commissions, and various project grants. SAAs also provide information and services to assist artists in building connections, showcasing work and accessing information.

NASAA’s newly updated fact sheet, Support for Individual Artists, provides a national overview of grants and services for artists, including summary statistics and grant distribution by artistic discipline.

Members interested in further details or comparative information for their state can contact the research staff with their request.
