Preview of State Arts Agency FY2024 Appropriations
NASAA has released the FY2024 State Arts Agency Legislative Appropriations Preview, providing a forecast of legislative appropriations for the arts in all 56 states and jurisdictions for the upcoming fiscal year. Projected for FY2024, total aggregated appropriations to state arts agencies (totaling $706.3 million) are anticipated to decrease by 27.3%, primarily due to a 63% reduction in line items stemming from one-time COVID-19 pandemic aid pass-throughs and the reporting of multiyear grants in their initial year. This reflects a reduction of $266 million compared to the all-time high reported in FY2023, yet it remains 68% higher than pre-COVID levels.
These figures offer a preliminary estimation of state arts agency funding, collected before the start of the new fiscal year on July 1st for most states. These estimates will be refined as revenue and budget deliberations are finalized. NASAA will provide a comprehensive report in the upcoming winter, detailing the enacted budgets of each state arts agency.
