New and Updated Grant Making Fact Sheets

NASAA has published a series of grant making fact sheets that provide a comprehensive overview of state arts agency (SAA) grant making in specific areas of interest. In addition to our current collection, four new fact sheets further enhance understanding of states’ public funding for the arts.

The first two fact sheets, Social Vulnerability and Percentage below Poverty, provide a geospatial analysis of grant distribution patterns across communities with varying social vulnerability and poverty levels, illuminating historical grant allocation and pinpointing areas of greatest need. This analysis serves as a valuable tool for state arts agencies as they work to achieve their goals of equity and accessibility.

The Grants by Organizational Size fact sheet focuses on state level general operating support grants, providing insights into how funding allocations vary among different-sized arts organizations. The Public-Sector Grant Making fact sheet presents information on grantees that have received funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, regional arts organizations and state arts agencies. These new fact sheets will be a valuable addition for anyone interested in learning more about how public funding for the arts is distributed and extends its reach to diverse communities.

NASAA’s other fact sheets have been updated, encompassing fiscal years 2011-2020 (the most recent available). These include:

These resources provide information on funding trends, breakdowns by artistic discipline and institutional type, and summaries of related services to highlight the many ways SAAs support arts and creativity.

NASAA’s Grant Making and Funding pages offer comprehensive data visualizations and detailed reports on SAA grant-making trends and revenues. A snapshot of funding—national aggregate and state by state—can be found in the State Arts Agency Grant Making and Funding Summary.
