Louisiana: Arts in Education Surveys
The results of three arts education surveys are available on the Louisiana Division of the Arts (LDOA) Web site. The Louisiana Arts in Education surveys, commissioned by the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism and conducted by KID smART, a nonprofit arts education organization based in New Orleans, resulted in three separate reports: Public Survey 2009; District Survey 2009; and School Survey 2009. Each of the reports documents the survey results from the perspective of different constituencies relating to arts education. By examining these pictures of arts education, they hope to encourage a conversation on how the arts are able to invigorate education in Louisiana and help to prepare students for the 21st century work force. With the passing of Act 175 in 2007, Louisiana gained a strong engine to help make the arts accessible to children in Louisiana’s public school systems. These surveys were conducted as part of the process to ensure high quality arts education to all students in Louisiana. For more information about the surveys and results, contact LDOA Arts-in-Education Director Bethany France.
