Question: How much funding do state and regional arts agencies award to rural areas?

Answer: About 59 million residents (20 percent of the U.S. population) live in rural areas. Together, states and regions made more than 7,400 awards totaling $39.8 million to rural (non-metropolitan) areas in fiscal year 2006. Rural awards comprised 27 percent of all grants and 14 percent of all grant dollars awarded.

For Additional Information: Using Final Descriptive Report (FDR) data, NASAA provides comparative grant-making statistics to member states. This information can help you illustrate how your grants are distributed across your state, and how those patterns compare to other states or the nation.
