NASAA State Legislative Roundup 2021

NASAA is pleased to announce the release of its State Legislative Roundup 2021, which highlights 131 bills considered by state legislatures this year that are important to state arts agencies and their constituencies.

As legislatures adapted and responded to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, NASAA continued to track the cultural policy trends reflected in state legislation around the country. The 2021 edition—which NASAA curated from more than 1,500 bills—summarizes the legislation most important to state arts leaders this legislative session. It also features a visual analysis of state legislative trends over the past seven years.

We hope it provides insights that will help you cultivate support for the arts in your own state.

As usual, NASAA will be sharing the report with state arts advocacy organizations.

We welcome news—now or at any point in the year—about past, current or pending legislation in your state. You can share your legislative leads by contacting NASAA Research Associate Declan Wicks.

NASAA will be holding a research briefing on the Legislative Roundup to discuss highlights from this year’s legislative sessions, explain the research in further depth and answer your questions. The briefing will be on December 15 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. Eastern. We invite state arts agency staff and cultural advocates to register for this event.

Thanks again for your leadership and support of the arts!
