State Arts Agency Grant Making and Funding
NASAA’s State Arts Agency Grant Making and Funding Summary offers a concise visual snapshot of grant distributions and state arts revenue for both national and state level analysis. This annually updated resource is available year-round on NASAA’s Grant Making page and serves as a reference for understanding the scope and impact of public funding for the arts.
The current edition provides detailed analysis of fiscal year 2023 grant-making activities and FY2025 agency revenues, revealing how state arts agencies serve their communities through a variety of funding approaches across disciplines and organization types. This data helps inform grant-making priorities and outreach efforts, demonstrating the substantial nationwide reach of state arts agencies. For example:
- More than 34,000 grants totaling $730.82 million are distributed across all 50 states and six jurisdictions.
- Data visualizations show how grants are distributed by discipline (performing arts, visual arts, multidisciplinary and other categories) and institution type (arts organizations, community organizations, educational institutions and other entities).
- Revenue snapshot and trend analysis from 1995-2025 illustrates the trends of state arts agency funding over three decades.
We are committed to keeping this resource current and relevant, with the next update expected in early fall. We welcome your feedback and suggestions for enhancements, and encourage you to reach out with questions or to discuss how these findings might support your agency’s work.
