Louisiana: Veterans Songwriting Workshop

Veterans participating in Songs for Survivors – Veterans Songwriting Workshop in Baton Rouge, Louisiana

More than 284,000 veterans live in Louisiana, and the Louisiana Division of the Arts (LDOA) is seeking ways to address the unique needs of this population. The LDOA, in concert with Baton Rouge Music Studios and the National Endowment for the Arts, initiated a songwriting workshop for veterans. Songs of Survivors (SOS) workshops are designed to provide an experience that will allow participants to find power in their voice while developing and strengthening relationships with individuals who share similar experiences. These free workshops provide veterans the opportunity to tell service related stories through lyrics and music in a safe, supportive and empowering environment. The workshops are taught by professional educators, songwriters and touring musicians. Nashville Star alumnus, U.S. veteran and hit songwriter David St. Romain along with Baton Rouge Music Studios’s Doug Gay and Sarah Burke make up the team. To learn more, contact LDOA Director of Arts Education and Accessibility Danny Belanger.
