Frequently Asked Questions

Question: After an installation is completed through a state percent for art program, who is responsible for maintaining the artwork?

Answer: Although policies vary from state to state, the site or agency housing the artwork usually has primary responsibility for its maintenance. However, most state arts agencies play an ongoing advisory role, helping host agencies assess the condition of their works and monitoring conservation and repair needs. Some state arts agencies also set aside portions of percent for art project costs to provide funding for repair or restoration of the artworks over time.
