Virgin Islands Council on the Arts: Seniors Staying Connected

Project Description

Virgin Islands Council on the Arts will employ six local artists aged 50 years and older to instruct a series of virtual/live workshops that will incorporate a variety of arts and craft, dance and visual arts. These classes will target our local senior citizens in senior homes and hospices, as well as those who have been affected by the shutdown of our senior centers due to the pandemic. Each participant will register for the workshop of their choice. All participants will receive a supply packet via mail (or in-person) with all materials needed to complete the class. We anticipate a six-month program; three months of virtual sessions (four 45-minute consecutive sessions per month) and three months of live/in-person sessions (four 90-minute sessions per month).  We plan to partner with AARP of the Virgin Islands in an effort to target their 22,000 membership base. Project activities will take place territorywide on all three islands: St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John.
