Featured Keynote
Nationally renowned anti-ageism activist and author of This Chair Rocks: A Manifesto against Ageism Ashton Applewhite was the 2021 Creative Aging Institute keynote speaker! This Chair Rocks: A Manifesto Against Ageism charts Applewhite’s journey from apprehensive boomer to pro-aging advocate, debunking harmful myths and stereotypes about aging along the way. The manifesto was listed as one of the “100 Best Books to Read at Every Age” by The Washington Post, and named one of “10 Books to Help You Foster a More Diverse and Inclusive Workplace” by Forbes. In her time with NASAA’s Creative Aging Institute, Applewhite looked at ageism from a variety of angles: from discrimination in the workplace to the cost of the all-American myth of independence and the misinformed portrayal of older people as burdens to society.
