This afternoon, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to defeat an amendment authored by Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-WI) that would have reduced fiscal year 2019 funding for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) by $23 million. The amendment fell by a vote of 297-114, once again demonstrating bipartisan support for the NEA. As a result of the defeat of the amendment, the House’s proposed funding level for the agency will remain at $155 million. Upon passage of the House bill (expected later today), focus will turn to the Senate, which has also proposed funding the NEA at $155 million.
