Game-Changing Creative Economy Data

March 6, 2018

NASAA is pleased to announce a new resource for state arts leaders: the Creative Economy State Profiles. Produced in cooperation with the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), this interactive dashboard visualizes details about the creative economy in every state. The dashboard uses data drawn from the Arts and Cultural Production Satellite Account (ACPSA), published by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis in partnership with the NEA.

ACPSA data is an excellent resource for articulating the contribution of the arts and culture, from both commercial and nonprofit organizations, to the economy in your state. For the first time, you can view data on the contribution of the arts as a percentage of gross state product.

The Creative Economy State Profiles tool allows you to explore:

  • the total value of arts and cultural production in every state, as well as the nation
  • total employment and compensation associated with arts and cultural production
  • profiles of arts and culture alongside other key industry sectors
  • regional views of how your state compares to your neighbors
  • creative economy performance versus overall state economic performance over time

Designed to complement the NEA’s growing suite of ACPSA resources, this new interactive dashboard allows state arts leaders to quantify a more complete picture of arts and cultural production and make a highly credible case to policymakers and stakeholders.

Please explore the Creative Economy State Profiles, and don’t hesitate to contact me for help using this information in your state.
