State Arts Agency Placement FAQ Update
State arts agencies (SAAs) hold diverse positions within the organizational structures of state governments across the nation. SAAs can be broadly categorized into two main groups: independent agencies, which are found in 23 states, and agencies that are part of larger, multidivision departments, present in 26 states. In a unique arrangement, one SAA operates as a nonprofit organization outside of the state government structure.
NASAA has recently updated its State Arts Agency Placement: Frequently Asked Questions and associated information tables, providing insights and data on the organizational structures of state arts agencies. The FAQ addresses common questions about agency placement, such as the number of independent agencies, recent restructuring efforts and the potential impact of placement changes on legislative appropriations. The updated State Arts Agency Placement Details table offers a comprehensive overview of each agency’s position within state government. This resource also includes an updated summary of the structural composition of multiagency departments housing SAAs, including department leadership and other agencies within these departments.
As SAAs navigate the ever-changing landscape of state government, NASAA remains committed to providing the most current and relevant information to support informed decision making. For more information on state arts agency structure and placement, contact NASAA Research Director Ryan Stubbs.
